What’s a musical “CSA” and how does it work?

In the farm world, “CSA” stands for “Community-Supported Agriculture,” a popular local food-growing partnership between farmers and consumers. How does it work? Simple. Consumers buy “shares” in a local farm at the beginning of the growing season, in exchange for receiving a steady supply of food they pick up from the farmer during harvest time.

Our Phineas Gage Project musical CSA stands for “Community-Supported Artist,” and the partnership works in much the same way. Listeners buy a CSA “share” in our band as we “grow” our music, in exchange for receiving a steady supply of “pholk phunk.” We pheed you good music - tunes delivered during the musical “harvest.” The good news? Unlike our pharm phriends, we cultivate music all year long – and email it to you.

How much does a monthly Phineas Gage CSA “share” cost me, and why would I ever buy one?

A monthly CSA “share” costs you a buck. Yep, that’s right. One dollar. In return, you receive a Phineas Gage tune delivered to your e-mailbox on the phifteenth (15th) of each month. Why buy? Your support allows us to share our music with you on a regular basis. Win Win. What’s not to like?

What if I just want a CD of Phineas Gage’s music?

You can buy a Phineas CD any time. And know this. From a listener’s perspective, one of the really phun aspects of our Phineas Gage CSA is that each month is different. Over the course of one year, we’ll bring you a wide variety of Phineas “pholk phunk,” including live tracks, cover tunes, B sides, and other stuff that will never make it onto a CD. Phantastic, yes?

Is monthly delivery of my Phineas Gage CSA share guaranteed?

Yep. The phifteenth (15th) of each month. In your email. Rain or shine. Sleet or hail. As long as the Internet continues to phunction.

Can I cancel my Phineas Gage CSA share?
  
Yep. You can pull the plug. Any time. No hard pheelings.

What if I buy a Phineas Gage CSA share in, say, May 2012, after the share program has been going for a few months?
  
Two options here. You simply receive May’s pheatured “pholk phunk” tune, and on we go. Or, if you plunk down an extra phour dollars, we’ll e-mail you the “pholk phunk” tracks from January, Phebruary, March, and April. You decide.

What if I am uncomfortable signing up for a monthly charge?

We understand. And we also know that Paypal is about as secure as it gets. Not much more we can say here.

Do we need a minimum number of Phineas Gage CSA shareholders to make this work?

We’d be pherociously excited to have as many musical CSA shareholders as we can. But no, there is no minimum number of investors needed. We hope you’ll help us spread the word.

What about the middleman? Does this Phineas Gage CSA program take a bite out of Apple and other online music providers?

What’s to prevent me from buying a Phineas Gage CSA share and then simply emailing your song to all of my phriends myself?
  
Absolutely nothing. We’re musicians. Not regulators, lawyers, or the RIAA. We trust you to do the right thing. Plain and simple.
